Improve artist page and artist description

What is the problem you are facing?

There is no place to add information on an artist on the artist page. It would be nice to have :

• Genre (related to #432 (closed))
• Website
• Biography
• Link to website
• Pictures
• Discussion (related to #498 (closed))

What are the possible drawbacks or issues with the requested changes?

I don't see any drawback, just a bit of work to implement it.

The only question is who is able to update this, but with the new per-user discography, I guess the owner should be the one authorized to update it.

+1, I would love to see a picture avatar for each artist. It's a minor detail, but as someone who makes his own music, I wouldn't mind being able to show off my band logo or a photograph or something.

I would actually go for links only, and rely on existing resources for more details. Less local-only artist information, better artist information in the commons (Wikipedia, MusicBrainz, etc).

Agreed, except MB depends on a Wikipedia links for photo (not Wikimedia) and bio - so no data if the artist is not in Wikipedia.

Vinyl music player retrieves data from Deezer thru its API. It works really good.
