Gapless play

What is the problem you are facing?

Just before starting to play the next song, there's a pause loading the next one. As this makes technically sense, the user experience is not so great, especially when playing mixed albums or Classical work. Some artists even recommend hearing an album as a whole, meaning as a single peace of art. As those gaps last much longer than just a few micro seconds, the whole artist's concept is contradicted.

What are the possible drawbacks or issues with the requested changes?

Might not be easy implemented, as many other Media Players like Emby, Plex, Jellyfin etc. lack gapless play, too.

Context

  • have something which is unique compared to many other Media Players
  • Funkwhale might be sorted out just from the beginn when someone's looking for a "better" Player
  • attract more users
