Instead of one Artist Image that is stretched - have a square image and a banner image

What is the problem you are facing?

The following is what it looks like on a desktop with the image I have uploaded to the artist when viewed on the desktop.

Save_Ferris

This is ugly and unfortunate. I propose instead that there should be the opportunity to upload two images - a square image and a wide image. The wide image can be used on the desktop. The square image can have two purposes:

  1. It can replace the purple circle icon above the band's name.

  2. It can be used when the responsive design notices you're on a narrow view - say a phone or tablet in portrait orientation.

What are the possible drawbacks or issues with the requested changes?

Obviously, this would double (or more) the amount of space used for the artist. Also, some people may have already uploaded images that look good when cut off this way.

Context

I will acknowledge that even Spotify (which, as everyone knows) is a professional and paid service, also has the same behavior that FunkWhale currently has. I don't believe that makes it an optimal behavior, though.
